Bryce exposing this power, results in the Esteri shooting the city with brimstone missiles in an attempt to kill her, because it doesn’t suit their agenda for it to come out that an impure half-fae holds such a gift. Bryce manages to close one of the Hel gates with her secret star power but unfortunately, the Esteri have been watching events unfold on the city cameras.
The real heroes of the book step up at this point to help get all the humans that can’t defend themselves to safety. Bryce kills him thanks to the sacrifice of her friend, the fire sprite, Lehabah, but not before Micah inadvertently opens the gates to Hel and an army of demon monsters start attacking the city. The book ends with a huge climax of Micah trying to use the horn (which we find out has been tattooed on Bryce’s back the whole time) to open a portal into another dimension. Most of the book is spent with Bryce and Hunt following clues, hunting for the location of an ancient fae artifact called Luna’s Horn, fighting some scary demon that keeps trying to kill them, and also trying to find Danika’s killer.
Assisting her in her duties was Hunt Athalar a fallen angel and slave who belonged to the governor of Valbara, the archangel Micah Domitus. I’ve done my duty and re-read the whole book (which I definitely recommend by the way, as it’s so much better the second time around and the audiobook is amazing if you’re short for time) so, with all the events fresh in my mind, let me jog your fuzzy memory.īryce Quinlan was tasked with finding the killer of her best friend, alpha wolf Danika Fendyr, who was murdered along with the rest of her pack members, one being Bryce’s nearly-boyfriend Connor Holstrum.

So, with the second Crescent City book (House of Sky and Breath) being released in February 2022, you may be thinking that it’s time to do a re-read of House of Earth and Blood. Crescent City by Sarah J Maas was one crazy, emotional rollercoaster but so much was going on and there was a huge amount of information we needed to get to grips with.
